The SMR is an external preamplifier for the SNN recorder, allowing external condenser microphones (typically AKG capsules of the CK5 or CK28 models) to be connected. It is equipped with a rotary input level control and a modulometer to indicate signal level. It is fitted with three different input high-pass filters to compensate for ambient room noise, as well as the possibility to lock the SN in playback mode by cutting the power to the recording circuits.
